Can anyone advise me as to what cables do I need to connect a newly unpacked and cable-less BDV-NF720 to a Bravia KDL 40EX503 set?

The quick start guide is about as much use as most quick start guides and I am unable to read/download the manuals - which should be in the box anyway!

The QSG seems to refer to both HDMI and  an optical cable - might as well refer to a particle accelerator as it doesn't say which (or both) is required

    Hi pippoff and welcome.

     

    You just need a HDMI cable - but you must connect to the HDMI 1 socket on the TV as this is the only HDMI socket with an Audio Return Channel (ARC).  You need the ARC to play the sound from the TV on the NF720's speakers.

     

    Only if you need the HDMI 1 socket for something else using control for HDMI, will you need the optical cable as well.

    sorry for delay - away on holiday

    yes the set does have 2 hdmi inputs one of which is arc enabled

    so I assume the sky box goes in the other one?

    any other connections needed - managed to print out the manual of course my printer ran out of ink halfway through so another delay getting replacement cartridges (my god are they made of gold?) and the manual is a tad opaque
