Connecting an external USB Hard Drive to EX653

Hi,

I have tried connecting multiple external hard drives to my TV but it does not recognise them as in there is no option to select them.

What do i need to do in order to use a USB hard drive on my TV?

I have read that I might need to format it and it can only be used on that TV, if that is the case how would I load media onto it from my laptop?

I have a KDL-40D3500 TV. There are multiple versions of the handbook but there is no specific statement that confirms this particular specification.

I have plugged in a BDV-E290 and the TV appears to be switching to Audio System mode yet I get no sound from the AV system.

How can I confirm that the TV supports ARC? What version of HDMI would be on a set from 2008?

very slow on channel change

My Sony Bravia 40" KDL-40EX501 from 05-22-2012 has recently gone very slow on channel change, taking 8 or more seconds to show the selected programme. Also, on regular channels, Anybody had any experience of these problems and have you found the fix? the TV is updated

Clouding on W805 bottom corners

.SRT Subtitles question to Sony

yes its that subject again your keen to avoid!

firstly why is it that Serviio has stated that .srt subtitles is supported (by Serviio) yet Sony are the only ones that dont have the appropiate profile to display it?,

secondly since i have not used Serviio (yet) i can play my media via DLNA using Windows Media Player, now heres the thing, if i play on my computer media player will play subtitles using DirectVobSub no problem, however if i stream using my BDP-S570 although Windows Media Player shows up in XMB when playing through this the subtitles are not there!,

how can we get the appropiate profile for our Sony Hardware to display .SRT

surely something like DirectVobSub which is only 2.10mb big or something similar can be installed via firmware update to solve all this?

we await your thoughts.

Bravia 32" KDL32EX43BU built in Blue Ray player unrepairable??

I would appreciate some advice from those among you who might have had a similar experience to mine?

In 2011 I paid £649 for a Bravia 32" with blue Ray in built player,plus 5 yr Guarantee/warranty.

Although having very little use,5 weeks ago the Blue Ray DVD player stopped working.Sony were contacted and removed TV for repair replacing it with 2nd hand Panasonic lacking DVD player.(not to happy over that)

WE were told at the time that Sony repair turnover was a max of 14days...after three weeks no-one had contacted us so we started chasing,only to discover that Sony had informed the branch that our Blue Ray Dvd player is unrepairable as parts are not available,equally Sony have stopped Production of the Bravia with in built Blue Ray shortly after our purchase, due,they say,to being unable to give customer choice over Blue Ray DVd in built into Bravia TV.

After four weeks we were eventually contacted by the manager of our local branch to discuss the situation who made it very plain(over the phone) it was impossible to replace what we had originally purchased,plus we were in a totally unique situation within Sony as it had never happened before, where the item could not be repaired or replaced,.and that at present no other customers were effected?

We understand the impossible cannot be granted if the model is no longer available and fully accept that...however what we do not accept,especially with our 5yr Guarantee is Sonys answer to the problem.

They want us to accept our original TV back with a free standing Blue Ray DVD player!

My objection to this is, that it is not the package that I initially purchased,plus what good is my original set if the DVD is broken.yes I can view DVDs through a free standing box,but when the time comes to move the set on, who will be interested,as psychologically from a buyers point of view if one part is broken whats to say the other is not effected?

As SONY admit, it is a unique situation: I would like them as a good will gesture if nothing else,to give us a credit note against what we origianlly spent, allowing us to start afresh in store....after all we did not break the unit,equally it is not our fault or that of our local branch if Sony are unable to repair or offer a replacement within the terms of the guarante/warranty.

I would be grateful for other Forum members views and comments,plus how they would react in the same situation. Thankyou.

BluRay player streams from PC but TV fails...

Hi,

i recently bought a KDL-47W805A and BDV-E4100 - both the TV and BluRay player can play MKV files saved on my PC wirelessly, thanks to Homestream, but while the TV fails a few seconds/minutes into the video, the BluRay player has no problems playing it at all.

it's the same file from the same computer and both the TV and BluRay player were set up in the same way. the error message from the TV is "cannot connect to server" or something, but then the BluRay player will connect to it just fine.

i'd rather play the file through the TV since the menus are much nicer to navigate.

any idea what the problem might be?

I'm desperately hoping that you guys will once more ride to my rescue!

I have decided to join the folks in the 21st century and get myself a smartphone.

As expected it's a damn sight smarter than I am.... even though it's almost 5 months old.

I was sat in my lounge exploring it's features.. (Wife speak.."playing with it") whilst oh wise one was watching some drivel on the TV.

Suddenly the world caved in on me!

The TV programme suddenly died, and the music I was listening to blasted out through the now blacked out TV...lol, the wife's face was a picture but the language was less than ladylike!

Non the less, she was impressed!

I would have been too, if I could have remembered how I had achieved it!

I eventually sussed out how to do it and ventured into my picture gallery.... and yes that too worked!

O a roll, I tried video, but here the wheels came off.... I got a cryptic message with the title :

"Change player", and displaying an exclamation mark in a triangle.

The body of the message read :-

"Player is not available. Check the network status and connected device"

That means nothing to me.

I'm hoping someone here will be able to guide me through it successfully

Sorry about all the edits, I was trying to correct a spelling mistake and it did something unexpected! Not sure if this additional info is pertinent, but I had a falling out with Java and uninstalled it to speed up my machine! Not yet installed it again so Serviio not working at present.

Bravia KDL-37P3000 display and color error

i have a sony bravia KDL-37P3000(5 yrs old) with screen and colour problems. here's a link to describe the problem : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMdACo-izis

this problem appears by all the sources: PC [more with hdmi cable but less with VGA cable], game console, dvb-s receiver,DVD.

specially you can see the former scenes on screen while watching the HDMI sources.They keep appearing for a few seconds on screen.

adjusting contrast,backlight,saturation etc makes problem more seemless but thats not an exact solution. Only way to stop this error on PC with HDMI cable is reducing the screen frequency to 50 hz. That stops the problem but i dont have a chance to change the frequency of other devices.

So i wanna know if it can be fixed or not and how much will it cost to me?

Tidying up of Cables and Wires

Hi all

Just curious on how you all sort out your wires and cables at the back of your equipment. I keep trying and am never happy with it. Its almost becoming an OCD !! Argh. I get so much of the way, and then all the cables seem to criss-cross all over the place. As well as different cable lengths etc.

How do I connect Blu Ray AND TV to internet

Sorry if this has already been posted, a quick search didn't find anything.

Basically I have a Sony Bravia TV (KDL-46EX723) and a Blu Ray player (can't remember the model).

None of these devices are wireless enabled so I've hardwired them to the router (one ethernet cable for each device going into the router, bit messy but didn't know any other method besides buying a wireless adapter for £80 odd), however I'm moving the router to a different room meaning wireless is my only option.

My question is, is there any simpler way to connect BOTH devices to the internet, without having to buy 2 wireless dongles spending £160? Or would that be my only option. Hard wired isn't an option to me anymore :(.

I don't mind buying 1 adapter but not sure if the TV and Blu Ray can share the connection or anything.

How would homeplugs work? If I were to buy homeplugs, I'd need one for each device, and then would I need to connect 2 homeplugs to the router or just 1 for the 2 sony devices? Don't know if this makes sense.

Help would be appreciated :)

Bravia KDL-V32A12U No longer retains Freeview Channels

Following a recent requirement to retune our Freeview channels, our Sony Bravia KDL-V32A12U no longer retains channels. If we wish to watch Freeview, we have to retune our TV every time - although this works it is time consuming and very frustrating, considering our set is only 7 years old. We have noticed that this may be due to a requirement to update software (Firmware), but all advice on this states the need to use a USB - our set does not have a USB. Have any other KDL-V32A12U owners experienced this? Can anyone offer advice?

I am an owner of KDL-32E4000 and i am experiencing problems with the DVB-T Signal. When i switch to Digital the whole TV starts to crash and slow down ... and suddenly it turns off. Does it have to deal with the firmware or something? Any solution?

i have exactly the same problem as the other people who have written about this tv model on the forum and there seems to be manty many more out thereon forums reporting the same problem that sony will not acknowledge.

there are dark lines running down my screen and a dark shadow line about an inch think on the right hand side of my screen, this was more noticable when watching football. my tv is not under warrranty anymore but is only 2 and a 1/2 years old. it seems that sony have created their screens to only last this long as lots of people have the same complaint.

i have just rang sony and i have been told that "there is no known problems with this model" that is rubbish as clearly there are a few of us just on this forum with the same pronblem. So we are paying about £1000 for a tv that will only last 2.5 years. i am disgusted with the lack of help and support from the sony call centre staff who basically said i need to get it fixed myself and i need to book it in with a service engineer. I suspect this is a problem with the panel or with the screen where a replace ment would cost you more than getting a new set. it would cost me £45 just for someone to come out and tell me that without even having it repaired. as a dedicated sony buyer over the years i cannot believe that my most expensive buy has only lasted 2.5 years.

WHY IS SONY NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM??

Connecting Sony Bravia to sky+ box

Just bought a new Sony Bravia and hooked it up to my standard sky+ box using the scart cable into the av1 socket on the tv. Automatic input detector knows a satellite box is connected (according to the abbreviation and icon) but no picture is visible when av1 input is selected.. Any ideas anyone?

I have a Sony Bravia and I usually record programs to a hard drive via usb.

However, there are programs I would like to save for the future and I'd like to save them onto a dvd. I do have a dvd player. My question is... can I play back the program and record it on to a dvd via the dvr (since the hard drive only works with this tv)?

iPlayer not working on my KDL EX503

When I try to launch iPlayer on my EX503 using the internet video button the screen goes black and I get a spinning wheel in the top corner as if it's trying to load but it just sticks like that.

Any idea what I can do to fix this.

I can actually get iPlayer on the TV via my Bluray player which is also a connected device. Any ideas why?

Connect an External Hard Drive to Bravia-40HX750 via USB

I recently bought a Seagate External Portable Hard Drive 500GB, I downloaded some MKV movies and I Connected it to my Sony Bravia-40HX750. The Unit was recognized as an external Drive, but I couldn't play the MKV files.

Searching the Sony menu, a message displayed that in order to read the External Seagate drive, it should be re-formatted(I suppose so) and the Data should be lost.

I accepted it, the disk was re-formatted and now I can programme to write programs from Sony Tv to the External Disk and I also can play them. So it works fine with the Sony TV.

The problem is that the so re-formatted Seagate is not recognized from my Desktop PC, using Win7 or from my Play Station 3. Is there any idea on how can I play the unit on both environments, or how can I format it to play in my Desktop ??

Inserting a usb wlan gives the message "The connection settings on the usb device may not be correct" but it works in my laptop.

I am trying to get a TP-Link TL-WN823N wireless adaptor to work in a Bravia KDL-40EX503 TV.

The usb WLAN works in my laptop and connects to the network ok, but as soon as it is plugged into the tv, I get the message in the title of this question. It won't let me alter any network settings as it thinks there is no device there.

Am I missing something obvious or is it anything like this device being uncompatibe?

Tech question about Sony Bravia KDL40R473ABU

I'm thinking about accepting a Sony Bravia KDL40R473ABU TV set after having to return a faulty LG 37LS570T (bought a week ago). The shop has no more LG's in stock but they highly recommend the KDL40R473ABU.

Although not a match for the Sony (picture wise) one really, really, really nice feature of the LG was that I could set up different colour balances for each input. So the aerial input (say) could have different colour settings from the HDMI inputs. I found this extremely useful for colour-matching my different input devices. The salesman reckoned that the Bravia probably has a similar feature but he couldn't seem to demo it to me. Anyone know if such a feature is available on the KDL40R473ABU?

Question about screen display

A display keeps coming up on my Bravia screen giving my model type followed by a series of what is available on my tv eg. pc input,usb play,bass booster,usb play,freeview.

Could my set be in Shop mode do you think?

Complaints department

Anyone knows the SLA for answering complaints? I logged a complaint last Thursday, 28.06.2012 and yet no answer.

I'm extremely frustated and lost any confidence in the Sony brand quality or customer services considering my TV (still under warranty) is in the repair shop for investigation a 3rd time in the last two months ... having 2 LCD panels replaced already and it's still broken

I never thought it could be so bad ... but now I feel robbed by Sony after spending over £1000 on this TV which sits more in the repairing shop.
