BDP-S380 download of updates via memory stick?

Pls advise whether it will be safe/work to update firmware using a memory stick. Sorry, can't find anything on using the sticks. Have tried updating version with network both via wireless and wired (connecting the ethernet cable) but both took an age, got to 2/9 and then still said server interrupted - after several attempts. I saw on guide that burning a cd is an option, but as unsure whether I can actually do this, would rather use the stick if possible - no mention? Am currently downloading the file in hope that answer is yes :-)
