All Vatican TV is produced in High Definition

Mar 3, 2010

Vatican Television Centre has chosen Sony Professional for its HD mobile production.

Founded in 1983, the Vatican Television Centre ( CTV) has been broadcasting the Supreme Pontiff's Pastoral Ministry and work undertaken by the Apostolic church. Each year, CTV offers full coverage of around 200 Vatican events, plus footage of the Pope's public appearances in Italy and other parts of the world.

Because of an ever increasing demand for High Definition images and the Vatican Television Centre's need to renew its mobile infrastructure and upgrade it to meet the qualitative standards of the most advanced international broadcasters, it has chosen Sony Professional to implement an OB Van completely in HD. The consignment of the new mobile unit is forecast for October 2010.

The choice has not only been dictated by technology and the quality of products, but in particular by the competence shown by Sony in the design of its mobile media and system integration. Sony Professional Services employs a team dedicated to the design and implementation of Outside Broadcasting, capable of providing clients with innovative solutions and responding to specific product demands. In addition to this, Sony offers consolidated technological quality, a reference point in the area of content creation.

“Due to its long experience as a Systems Integrator, Sony Professional is able to provide customised solutions and guarantee a high “standard of quality” in mobile broadcasting , remaining competitive in terms of costs and responding as best as possible in terms of management during the production phase. In addition to this, CTV staff have a positive attitude and consequently are committed to working in close collaboration with clients during the project start-up phase,” pointed out Benito Manlio Mari, Head of Media Business at Sony Italia.

“For CTV, the journey to High Definition represents a necessary phase in the development of its services and broadcasting images of the Pope and Vatican events, and helps to make sure that the channel remains a point of reference at the forefront of international broadcasting. For this crucial updating phase CTV looked for a partner with not only an in-depth technical knowledge of the industry, but which was also highly reliable in terms of its level of competence and project management skills. This is why we chose Sony, the company that CTV has been collaborating with for over 20 years," said Father Federico Lombardi, General Manager of the Vatican Television Centre.
